Support Ticket Screenshot Privacy Checklist

Last updated: August 21, 2026 · Edited by ImagePrivacy

Support screenshots are useful because they show context. They are risky for the same reason. Before attaching a screenshot, reduce it to the area the support team needs and remove the rest.

Crop to the relevant area

A full desktop screenshot often exposes browser tabs, bookmarks, chat apps, notifications, and local file names. Crop to the exact panel or error state if the surrounding context is unnecessary.

Redact account and customer details

Hide emails, user IDs, organization names, order numbers, invoice IDs, internal URLs, and customer data. Use a solid block for high-risk information.

Check URLs and query strings

Browser address bars can contain session identifiers, environment names, feature flags, or debug parameters. Redact the address bar unless support specifically needs it.

Remove metadata and rename the file

Screenshots can still contain metadata or file names that reveal project names and timestamps. Export a clean copy with a neutral name.

Reopen the exported screenshot

Open the final attachment before sending. Make sure the image still shows the error clearly but does not show unrelated private information.
